Real estate executive, affordable housing advocate, and author dedicated to proving that compassionate capitalism can transform communities.
Margaret “Marjy” Stagmeier has spent more than 25 years transforming the landscape of affordable housing in Atlanta and beyond. Dubbed “the compassionate capitalist” by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, she has built a career at the intersection of real estate investment and community development, proving that profit and purpose can coexist.
As co-founder of TriStar Real Estate Investment, Marjy has purchased, renovated, and managed more than 3,000 legacy apartment units, turning distressed properties into thriving communities. Her approach goes far beyond bricks and mortar — she pioneered the integration of after-school education programs, wellness services, and community gardens directly within apartment communities through her nonprofit Star-C.
A graduate of Georgia State University with a degree in accounting and finance, Marjy passed the Georgia CPA examination before pivoting to real estate. She has served as board chair of the Atlanta Community Food Bank and as treasurer and co-chair of HouseATL, Atlanta’s housing affordability collaborative.
Her work has been recognized with the Titan 100 Georgia award in 2023, and her story has been featured in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Atlanta Voice, Southern Living, Youth Today, and numerous other publications.
“Compassionate capitalism isn’t about choosing between doing good and doing well — it’s about proving they were never in conflict.”
